[Shinagawa Prince Hotel Store] Notice of Yakusugi Crafts Event
Thank you for your continued patronage of Seikado. Seikado Shinagawa Prince Hotel store will be holding a special event featuring crafts using Yaku cedar this September.
Yakusugi, which has lived for more than 1,000 years, has been used as a material for ships and construction since ancient times, but because of its oily and dense wood, it has been considered easy to break and difficult to process in detail.
Hara Kensuke, who has been in business for three generations, has been able to finely process Yakusugi using his unique wood-cutting eye and outstanding sawing skills. Thanks to his potter's wheel turning skills, which have been passed down from father to son, he has received the Blue Paulownia Leaf Award and the Outstanding Skills Badge (Modern Master Craftsman), and can be said to be a leading figure among Yakusugi turning craftsmen in Kagoshima.
This time, the Seikado Shinagawa Prince Hotel store will display and sell masterpieces created by master craftsman Kinsuke Hara that take advantage of Yakusugi's unique detailed patterns, beauty of the wood surface, color selection, and fragrance. At our store, you can actually see and touch the exquisite crafts that make use of the unique beautiful heathered grain of Yakusugi, which has lived for a thousand years, which is unusual for a tree, and enjoy the miracle of nature.
